Movie Still from “Alien 5 – Up Shit Creek”

A lesson in choosing your house pets wisely. You never know what kind of shit you might end up in.
Here is a movie still from the movie "Alien 5 – Up Shit Creek". It has not been released yet for reasons I cannot fathom.
Following all the dark and moody black and white portrait work I thought a little light entertainment might be a good idea.
Oh, and this one is so fragrant viewed large in the light box.
The Postman: Book Good, Movie Bad

The author of the book, David Brin, wanted to show a post apocalyptic scenario that was counter to the barbaric Mad Max school of social organization. He succeeds in doing this with the character of a stranger wandering from town to town posing as a postman in a uniform borrowed off a dead postman.
The role the Postman plays in evoking the social connections between people and their long lost relatives begins to manifest as real as the impostor persuades others to take on the role of actual postman delivering actual letters up and down the Western states in the name of the Restored United States of America.
The hero’s real goal is to galvanize a military to fend off the coming invasion of nasty brutes from the south, those social outcasts who had, during better times, bunkered down with cans of tuna and arms waiting for the apocalypse.
Along the way he comes across other interesting post-survival strategies including attempts at energy generation using the usual windmills and solar panels, a super-computer involved in a financing scheme, a feminist army of young women with a manifesto to kill off violent men and only mate with gentle ones, sage wise women who want libraries and schools, remnants of a government weapons project to create super soldiers, adaptions of nuclear family social relations to help sterile men who want to be fathers and the usual cannibalism and violence.
Too bad most of this doesn’t show up in the movie. Instead we have Kevin Costner as a sort of charismatic do-gooder loner against a charismatic, racist bad guy with an army of dolts to do is bidding. The concept of a mail system brings together a crew of naive young people looking for purpose. Their eagerness to play the role of Postman comes off as pure patriotism; the idea that a civilization is restored through a social network enabled by a communication system or any system at all is somewhat lost. Characters are conveniently killed off to make way for traditional nuclear family union and there are no signs of feminists or wise women, just the one love interest babe. Most fun part of the movie is that the army of dolts love to watch repeated screenings of The Sound of Music.

Movie set

One of the more interesting things about the movie sets was the smallness of them. They were amazingly compact, and the buildings often wouldn’t even remotely qualify as looking like a real building unless they are shot from a very exact angle. For instance, some houses had windows that revealed a 2 foot space, before the other walls on the side and rear. Of course, most of the sets weren’t dressed, but it was fascinating seeing just how far the camera can trick the viewer on a several story screen.

Hum Saath Saath Hain – 1999Starring Salman Khan, Saif Ali Khan, Mohnish Behl, Tabu, Sonali Bendre, Karishma Kapoor, Alok Nath, Rima Lagoo & Neelam, is essentially about the love and affection shared between brothers and unity within a family. Ramkishen (Alok Nath) and his wife Mamta (Reema Lagoo) live with their three sons, Vivek (Mohnish Behl), Prem (Salman Khan), and Vinod (Saif Ali Khan). Prem and Vinod have sweethearts in Preeti and Sapna (Sonali Bendre and Karisma Kapoor), but the eldest son Vivek has always been shy and introverted due to a birth handicap. The family meets with Adarsh and his daughter Sangeeta (Rajeev Verma and Tabu), and decide to get Sangeeta and Vivek get married. Though Vivek protests in the beginning Sangeeta’s love and devotion wins him over and they get married. After their wedding Mamta becomes insecure, assuming that Vivek (her step-son) would become selfish and take over the business and property. In order to protect Prem and Vinod, Mamta schemes with Dhanraj (Sadashiv Amrapurkar) to alienate Vivek from the property and inheritance. This divides the family, even though Vivek & Sangeeta accept Mamta’s wishes and leave the house. Due to the unconditional love and respect for his elder brother, Prem quietly revolts against his mother’s decision and changes her heart. Hum Saath Saath Hain restores faith in the Indian concept of a joint family and gives Indian cinema one of the most ideal characters in its history Vivek and Prem.

Transformers Megatron – modo robot (Movie Leader)

Nombre: Megatron

movie stubs part 1

From left to right:
Twin Peaks- Fire Walk With Me – My then boyfriend-now husband Eric says this is the worst movie I ever took him to. For years, he’d bring up how horrible this was if I picked a movie to watch that wasn’t familiar to him.
Hudson Hawk – saw it with my friends back in high school. Towards the end of junior year, some of my buddies had their driver’s licenses and cars so we were all able to do things at night and after school without taking the bus. I think out of the 10 people that went, only I and my friend Dave liked it. And inexplicably, I still do. Eric bought the DVD a few years back, turns out he likes it too. He wasn’t with us the night I saw the movie.
Young Einstein – One of the first movies I saw with Eric. I don’t remember too much about the movie, other than how huge Yahoo Serious’ hair was and how there was an attempt to make cat pie by putting kittens in a pie plate and covering them with sheets of dough. Needless to say we were mainly at the movies to make out. What else do you do when you’re in the 8th grade?
I’ve kept almost every movie stub since grade school. They don’t take up much space and it’s hilarious looking back at the crap and good things I’ve seen. Definitely more to come, just forgive the sometimes bad pop-cheesy tastes I had when I was younger.
